About this Workshop

First generation students face many obstacles during their college career that may discourage them from pursuing a higher education degree. One of the biggest obstacles is dealing with mental health- without the right resources, students’ mental health can affect their success. It is very important that they receive the appropriate support from their universities.

This workshop will address the struggles with mental health that first generation students face (lacking support from faculty and/or campus programs, lacking a sense of belonging, adapting to the environment, clash of cultures, etc...).

The presenters will help facilitate a discussion on how mental health can affect first generation students on campus where there aren’t enough resources to help support them. The workshop will provide strategies to help first generation students dealing with mental health and help them navigate their college career.
