About this Workshop

In higher education, first-generation students face microaggressions daily. These seemingly innocuous comments can feed students with a sense of imposter syndrome.

I have worked in Higher Education for nineteen years and am currently a first-generation Ph D. student and I still continue to feel like I don't speak the same language as those around me. The microaggressions I have faced have caused me to second guess myself and question whether I belong. I have struggled with how to deal with these microaggressions, often thinking this is a problem I needed to deal with quietly.

This workshop is a conversation for first-generation students, faculty, and staff to collectively explore these microaggressions, their impact on imposter syndrome, and ways we might work to enlighten others about our experience while also ensuring self-care.
