About this speaker

Lea Morin (she, her, hers) is proudly from San Antonio, Texas. She is a senior Latinx & Latin American Studies (LLAS) and Sociology double-major at Amherst College currently working on a Senior Thesis about the use of slurs as slang among Latinx ethnic in-group members. Beyond academics, Morin has been a student worker at the Office of Admissions as a Diversity Outreach Intern and Tour Guide since her first year at Amherst. Through her roles with the Office of Admissions, Morin engages with her interest in educational equity on campus via outreach to students underrepresented in higher education. Additionally, she has worked to support her fellow First Generation and/or Low-Income (FLI) peers on campus as a Program Coordinator for the Center for Diversity and Student Leadership (CDSL) which offers resources and supports community development for DACA and undocumented, FLI, transfer, and veteran students. Morin now works with the Loeb Center for Career Exploration and Planning as the Meiklejohn Student Engagement Specialist through which she has helped initiate a peer mentorship program for incoming FLI students and as a Peer Career Advisor through which she supports the professional development of students at Amherst via cover letter and resume support. After Amherst, Morin looks forward to continuing work that supports access to education for students in underserved areas.
