About this speaker
Freshman year started rough for Kendarius Dixon, the University of North Carolina At Pembroke undergraduate in Environmental Science, Co-creator of the new First-Generation Alliance Certificate program, Logo Designer. In his first Semester, he struggled with maintaining his courses and finding his identity on campus. Only until he realized that he was creating an identity like no other, it had the foundation of being First-Generation. Kendarius was born an only child and came from a single-parent household. Life before college was somewhat simply for him. Until he started college, his First-Semester experiences felt like “throwing dice,” leaving me feeling hopeless, except in the First-Generation LLC. Kendarius discovered that being a part of a community was the best thing to happen to him in college- the only time he truly felt a connection to his university, among other students who could relate with him on one level or another. The community helped in the classroom and personal, helping Kendarius navigate in his courses and deciding a piece of his identity.
