About this speaker
Alyssa Roimiser is from Carpentersville, Illinois. She is a senior studying Communication and Marketing at SIU Carbondale. For Alyssa, being a first-generation student was hard because she had little direction and knowledge of the college experience. She began school at Elgin Community College and transferred to SIU in the fall of 2019. She went out of her way her first year to get heavily involved, even though she was stepping into unknown territory. After going through the Emerging Salukis program in her first semester, she started warming up to the school and all it had to offer. Within the past year, she has become the President of Student Alumni Council, the Vice Executive Director of Student Programming Council, a Transfer Transition Leader, a member of the University Honors Program, and many other clubs. She was also a past mentee of the First Saluki Center. A goal of hers is to help other college students who may be in the same shoes she was in just months ago. She desires to provide information and advice to help mentees through the first year of their college experience. She cannot wait to see her future mentees grow and develop into Salukis!
